Hi, hello, how are you? My name is Adam Wood – I live in Oxford, where I spend time grinding coffee, making playlists, and getting nostalgic over 90s movies. This site is my notebook on the web.
In a folder upstairs I keep certificates to prove that I have a BA in English & American Literature from The University of Reading, and an MA in the same subject from The University of Kent. I spent my time as an undergraduate reading the Modernists and obsessing over Samuel Beckett. I wrote my Masters thesis on literary minimalism; my favourite writer on the whole planet is Amy Hempel. (Improbably, I also have a law degree, but that’s another story altogether.)
Each summer I run a read-along of a lengthy novel for a growing group of likeminded readers. So far we’ve covered Infinite Jest; The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle; A Little Life; 2666; The Goldfinch; The Blind Assassin; and A Brief History of Seven Killings — you should join us. I also love music, and I’ve been publishing annual favourites lists for more than two decades.
Elsewhere on the web, I write a personal newsletter called Tendrils; and record a new podcast called Flux Observer.
